Many people, no doubt, heaved a sigh of relief when Shiloh 2014 ended. We thought, at last, we would sleep well instead of the two hours or less, of rest we managed to get in-between the programme of events.
However, during the midweek service on December 17, 2014, Dr David Oyedepo admonished us against spiritual vacation. In an easy and comradely mood, he noted that some people had resumed watching Africa Magic or chatting with ‘demons’ on Facebook and other social media platforms all day. He emphasized that such acts drained the spiritual energy of believers adding that they might have to rebuild spiritual strength which may have been lost during such a ‘vacation’. He encouraged everyone to take heed to spiritual affairs and ensure that no room was given to the devil.
From 2 Samuel 11:1-16; 12:1-11, he painted the picture of David when he sent his army to battle but tarried in Jerusalem. He noted that it was during his ‘vacation’ from the battlefield that he committed adultery with Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife, and consequently killed Uriah and married his wife. From this, he pointed out that every spiritual vacation was a risk and because David tarried in Jerusalem, he succumbed to temptations and that brought calamity on Israel.
The 60-year-old Bishop further noted that the devil was never on vacation, adding that for Christians to embark on such was a risk to the blessings we have garnered at Shiloh 2014. Therefore, all through this festive and holiday season, we must realize that we have no license for spiritual vacation in this kingdom. Hence, this should be the period of reflections on our personal encounters in 2014, to set the pace for 2015. Remain ever blessed!
